Strong claims need strong sources – and often more than one. Accepted wisdom may be anything but. Facts need to be accurate and represented fairly.
A fact-check confirms everything verifiable in a story, usually close to publication.
My fact-checks include a line-by-line check of every fact alongside a check for balance, fairness and consistency. I evaluate sources and search for new ones.
I am thorough, sensitive, and enjoy chasing down the original source of an oft-quoted (or misquoted) fact or statistic. I have checked long-form articles, features and book chapters for major publishing and journalism outlets. I’m open to projects lasting months, or short one-off pieces. I work mainly on medical and health stories, human biology, and news, and also have writing and editing experience.
